Why EquityStack exists
I'm a tech worker who's spent years getting paid partly in shares — RSUs vesting on a schedule, taxes withheld through a system nobody explained, money scattered across half a dozen accounts. Along the way I built systems for all of it: how to handle the withholding gap, how to see my full financial picture, where to park cash between vests, which tax shelters are actually worth the paperwork.
EquityStack is those systems, written down. I write in the first person because these are things I've actually done, not things I read about. I stay anonymous because this site is about the systems, not about me — and because my employer doesn't need to be part of this story.
What you'll find here
- Mechanics, not motivation. No "10 money habits of successful people." Just how RSU withholding works, what the mega backdoor Roth requires, which accounts pay what — the operational details.
- Examples labeled as examples. When I show numbers, I'll tell you whether they're real figures (like IRS limits) or simplified illustrations. Financial content that blurs that line isn't trustworthy.
- No fake urgency. If something doesn't matter for your situation, I'll say so. Most "must-do" money advice is marketing.
What you won't find here
- Personalized advice. I don't know your income, your state, your plan documents, or your goals. Nothing here is a recommendation for you specifically — it's a starting point for your own research or a conversation with a professional.
- Stock picks or investment recommendations. This site covers the plumbing of equity comp — taxes, accounts, systems. It does not tell you what to buy.
- Sponsored opinions. Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you sign up — at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never determine what I write or recommend. Full details on the disclosure page.
How the site makes money
EquityStack is free to read and always will be. It earns money through affiliate partnerships: if you click a link and open an account or buy a product, the company may pay this site a commission. That revenue is what funds new guides. It doesn't change what the products cost you, and it doesn't buy a favorable review. If I wouldn't use it myself, it doesn't get recommended — link or no link.
